Consultation Fees

Consultation fees are billed at the recommended AMA rate. You will be advised of the cost when you make your appointment. A GP referral is required to claim a rebate from Medicare.

WorkCover and CTP covered patients will need to arrange approval through their insurer prior to the consultation. Fees will then be billed directly to the insurer.

DVA patients are fully covered with no out-of-pocket expenses.

Surgical Fees

Dr Freihaut aims to provide the highest standard of care and operates exclusively at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Lismore.

Following the consultation, if you require an operation, you will be informed of the fees for surgery. This is your informed financial consent.

We are aware of the rising cost of living for patients in our region. Your out-of-pocket expense for surgery depends on your level of cover and what your health fund offers you. The Australian Medical Association provides a list of recommended fees for surgery which is the AMA Rate. Very few health funds provide coverage for this rate despite the escalating fees they charge you. To help absorb this difference we offer the majority of  patients their health fund’s heavily discounted No Gap or Known Gap rate.

It is always advisable for you to contact your health fund to confirm your coverage.

Your health fund may ask you to provide a list of item numbers for the surgery to confirm your coverage. These can be provided on request.

If you are not in a health fund you are still eligible for surgery with Dr Freihaut at St Vincent’s Private. You can obtain a quote following the consultation and are still eligible for a Medicare rebate which will cover a proportion of the cost.
